The Revlon Super Lustrous Glimmer Glosses are in clear tubes, they have slanted applicators, and they have a light scent. I bought the shades Lavender Lust (lavender), Pink Prisma (icy cool-toned pink), Rose Glow (cool-toned pink), and Razz Beamy (cool-toned hot pink) which has the most colour payoff. My favourite shades are Lavender Lust and Pink Prisma. I applied more than one coat of each Glimmer Gloss for more colour payoff. Sometimes I used them with a lip pencil or I applied them over a matte lipstick. When I applied each shade on my bare lips, they provided a subtle enhancement of my natural lip colour with a shimmery shine. Even though the shimmery particles are visible on the lips, they do not look overwhelming. Some shimmery lip glosses have a gritty formula but the Glimmer Glosses felt smooth on my lips. I may have sensitive lips because many lip glosses and lipsticks have a drying effect to varying degrees. Sometimes the Glimmer Glosses felt comfortable to wear, but sometimes they dehydrated my lips.

The Natio Aromatherapy Regenerative Face Oil was in a transparent bottle with a pump dispenser, and it had a deep yellow colour. Apart from the product’s star ingredient of bakuchiol, it also contains bisabolol and calendula which have soothing properties. Considering that the product contains essential oils, I had expected that it would have an aromatherapy scent. However, I thought that the scent was bland. Although you can apply a moisturiser over the oil, I did not do this as it was sufficiently nourishing for my dry and mature skin. I did not notice any changes in my skin after using the entire bottle’s contents, but someone younger than me might see results.

I always have at least one tube of Weleda Hypercal Healing Cream in my home. The cream has a medium consistency, it is easy to dispense from the aluminium tube, and it has a pleasant lavender scent. Hypercal does not contain synthetic fragrances, preservatives, parabens and petrochemical derivatives. I have found it to be beneficial for soothing many skin conditions such as minor cuts, wounds and rashes. My only minor complaint about Hypercal is that if I am using it to treat a large area of skin such as a rash, it is expensive for such a small size tube. I contacted Weleda to ask if they’d consider making Hypercal in a larger size and they said that they have no current plans to do so. I also asked Weleda about the product’s aluminium packaging as I was concerned that there could be traces of aluminium leaching into the product. Weleda said that the: “tubes are free of nickel and are lined with a protective resin to avoid any interaction between the product and the aluminium material”.

I had never tried Carmex products before because I assumed that they had mostly synthetic ingredients which are not my preference. When I came across the Carmex Naturally lip balm in the watermelon variation, I was surprised that it has a high percentage of naturally-sourced ingredients. The lip balm had a strong watermelon scent when I first started using it, but it was not as strong in further applications. I found it easy to twist the lip balm up and down, its texture was not too soft or too firm, and it felt smooth on my lips. It is possible that I have sensitive lips because some lip balms, lipsticks and lip glosses have a drying effect to varying degrees. My lips immediately felt dehydrated after I applied the Carmex Naturally lip balm, but this drying effect dissipated.

The Natio Aromatherapy Paw Paw Lip Balm was in an opaque plastic squeeze tube and it had the consistency of a watery gel. Even though the ingredients list says that the product contains fragrance, I thought that it had a neutral scent. Due to the lip balm’s watery formula, it only provided a light amount of nourishment. I had to reapply the lip balm frequently throughout the day, but this is the case with many lip balms. I occasionally applied the product to my dry elbows, and it was good for this purpose.

I bought the Suede Ink Lipstick in 012 Power Trip which is a cool-toned plum with a grey or possibly lavender undertone. This shade had excellent colour payoff and it worked well with my fair skin and dark ash brown hair. The product had a scent but it was not overpowering. Power Trip did not glide easily on my lips but it applied easily over a lip balm. It left a tacky finish which never dissipated. The tackiness was not my preference, so sometimes I used a lip gloss over the lipstick for greater comfort. Perhaps the tackiness was due to my lip’s skin chemistry. Power Trip had excellent longevity if I did not eat or drink anything. If I ate a light meal, sometimes the pigment wore well, but sometimes I was left with a patchy residue of colour.

I recently had a long “vacation” in hospital and I did not have any toiletries with me. A lovely nurse gifted me the Dove Triple Moisturising Body Wash. The product was in a one litre opaque plastic bottle with a sturdy and effective pump dispenser. The body wash had the consistency of a light lotion and it had a fresh scent. The body wash did not really lather and it left a subtle film of moisture on my skin. The scent lingered on my skin for a while – some people will like this feature, but some may find that the scent clashes with their perfume. I initially liked the scent as it gave me a fresh feeling, but I started to notice the product’s synthetic note (which I did not prefer) as I continued to use it.

The Jojoba Company Australian Jojoba is a product that I have purchased countless times over the years. I buy the largest size bottle because it is better value. I always have a bottle of this liquid gold in my home because it is so versatile. I have used jojoba oil as a pre-treatment before shampooing my hair. Sometimes I have used jojoba oil as a facial oil, and my dry and mature skin loves it. I also have used jojoba oil on my body and it is extremely gentle and nourishing on areas of skin that are sensitive or irritated. Unlike some other oils that have a denser consistency, jojoba oil seems to absorb a bit more quickly.

The Jojoba Company Daily Glow is in a transparent plastic bottle with a screw top lid and the enclosed liquid has a pleasant botanical scent. I only needed a small amount of the liquid for each application. My dry and mature skin never became irritated after using Daily Glow. The product left a tacky finish on my face when I used it on its own, and the tacky finish was still slightly noticeable the next day. For this reason, I preferred to use a facial oil after using Daily Glow even though the facial oil did not completely remove the tackiness. Just for the record, I also sometimes experience a tacky finish when using toners that contain glycolic acid. Apart from using Daily Glow on my face, I occasionally used it to remove flaky areas on my body, and the product was effective for this purpose. I did not notice any results from using Daily Glow on my face, but this might be because I have been using exfoliating products from other brands for many years.

I have tried a large range of makeup blending sponges, but there are only several that have been repeat purchases – one of them is the EcoTools BioBeauty Blender. The main reason why I love the BioBeauty Blender is because of its large flat edge - this is the part of the sponge that I use the most. Although the BioBeauty Blender has a slightly firm consistency, it still feels comfortable to use. This is in contrast to some other sponges that were so hard that I quickly discarded them. The BioBeauty Blenders have a tendency to tear easily, but this occurs with other brands of sponges. It is possible that I am too rough when I clean them.
