Kiwanis beats ILWU to push record to 10-0

PORT ANGELES — Kiwanis defeated visitors ILWU 13-3 to remain unbeaten in girls 16U fastpitch softball at 10-0.

Jada Cargo-Acosta went 3 for 3, hitting a two-run triple a two-run double and a two-runs single, while scoring three runs.

Elizabeth Groff and Amaris Martinez both scored three times each. The trio accounted for nine of Kiwanis’ 13 runs. ILWU scored two runs in top of the second on a single by Makayla Ramey, a hit batter and a walk. Ramey scored on a wild pitch while Candace Grossell scored on a fielders choice.

In top of the fifth, ILWU’s Emi Halburg beat out a perfect bunt, moving to third base on a single by Kylee Hutton. Halburg scored on a wild pitch.

Pitcher Isabelle Cottam got the win, giving up five hits while striking out eight.

Junior Babe Ruth

PORT ANGELES — CO-OP won in Junior Babe Ruth action, beating Westport 7-5.

Brandon Barnett struck out eight and worked around seven walks and a couple of balks to pitch a complete-game four-hitter. Westport’s Isaiah Getchell, Landon Siebel, B. Jarmin and Conner Bear all had hits with Jarmin plating two with a double. Seibel also had an RBI.

Austin Newton went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBI to lead CO-OP. Brandon Barnett went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI to help his own cause. Colton Reed also went 3 for 4. Others with hits were: Michael Grubb, two singles and an RBI; Silas Thomas, 1 for 3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Lane Mote and Cole Steeby also got base hits.

Tranco wins 20-10

PORT ANGELES — Zoe Smithson, Abby Frank, Teanna Clark, Kate Snook, Lillie Commerree, Emmalyn Morris, Holly Tietjen, Maryrose Halberg all got hits for Tranco in a 20-10 win over PA Power on Thursday.

Teagan Clark went 4 for 4 while Grace Roening added a triple and a double.

Roening pitched the first three innings and had six strikeouts. Teagan Clark pitched one inning. Halberg pitched one inning and earned two strikeouts. All but three Tranco players crossed the plate and everyone got on base at least once.

For PA Power, Ali Money, Isabelle Felton, Alizandra Fitzsimmons and Ella Siller earned base hits. Lilly Sheid and Carlee Dewater each hit a double. Isabelle Felton pitched four innings, earning two strikeouts and Lindsey Groff pitched one inning with a strikeout. All but one PA Power got on base.

Tranco finishes the regular season as League Champions with a record of 13-1. Tournament play starts next week.
