WRESTLING: Sequim’s Pierson, Mendoza named Olympic League boys and girls wrestling MVPs

PORT ANGELES — Sequim cleaned up among the Olympic 1A/2A League wrestling all league teams, winning the MVPs for both boys and girls

Alma Mendoza of Sequim, who finished second at the Mat Classic state wrestling meet in her 155-pound weight class, was named to co-MVP of the Olympic League 1A/2A along with Holly Beaudoin of North Kitsap.

Grant Pierson of Sequim came in fifth at the Mat Classic in his 160-pound weight division.

Other local boy wrestlers making the all league team were Adrian Klarich of Sequim, who came in seventh at the Mat Classic at 182 pounds and won regionals, and Cody McLain of Chimacum, who came in third in the 1A division at the Mat Classic at 220 pounds. Bryce Lauderback of Port Angeles also made all league at 195 pounds.

A number of local girls made all league: Ally Bradley, Port Townsend, 110 pounds; Kiara Pierson, Sequim, 120 pounds; Alyssa Sweet, Port Angeles, 130 pounds; Aylee Bennett, Sequim, 140 pounds; Brenna Franklin, Port Townsend, 170 pounds; and Madison Uranga, Sequim, 190 pounds.
