WRESTLING: Sequim’s Gresli wins class at North Mason Classic

BELFAIR — Sequim’s Hayden Gresli won his division at 160 pounds at the North Mason Hawkins Memorial Classic this weekend, helping the Wolves finish sixth out of 16 teams.

Gresli’s teammates Amara Sayer (118 pounds), Kiara Pierson (140) also won their divisions in the girls’ meet Saturday. Also taking first place at the girls’ meet were Port Townsend’s Veda Dosey at 144 pounds and Brenna Franklin at 170 pounds.

The Sequim boys finished with 95 points, edging Port Angeles, which finished seventh at 87 points. Three local teams finished in the top 10 with Port Townsend taking 10th at 61 points. North Kitsap won the meet with 152.5 points.

Gresli won three matches en route to his title, one by a 3-2 decision, the semifinal by a pin and the finals with a 12-2 major decision.

Sayer, Pierson and Dosey all won their division with three straight pins. Franklin won hers with two pins.
