BELFAIR — Port Angeles’ Daniel Basden and Port Townsend’s Dylan Tracer each won their weight divisions at the North Mason Hawkins Memorial Wrestling Invitational.
Basden won his 126-pound weight division Saturday with a pin in the championship match over Dalton Tellinghuisen of Kingston. Tracer won the 182-pound division with a pin over Hunter Wallis of Klahowya.
Also winning their weight division was Breanna Franklin of Port Townsend, who won the girls’ 155-170 division round robin with a pair of pins over Carli Durbin of North Mason and Caroline Michaels of Bainbridge.
The Port Townsend boys finished 11th out of 19 teams in the meet with 69.5 points, while the Port Angeles boys finished 12th with 68.0 points.
Also placing at Saturday’s meet was Kyle Caldwell of Port Townsend, who finished second at 195 pounds. He made it to the championship match, where the only wrestler who could beat him was Nouah Hammou of 2A North Kitsap, who won with a pin.
Placing fourth in their weight divisions (the tournament did not wrestle off for third place) were:
• Scott Hedin, Port Angeles, 113 pounds
• Gavin DeBore, Port Angeles, 138 pounds
• Gabe Petrick, Port Townsend, 160 pounds
For the girls, Port Angeles’ Kayla Richmond finished second in her 163-168 round-robin by winning with a pin over Jaye Lynn Tatum of Bremerton. Her Roughrider teammate Sarah Jonlet took third in the 133-141 round-robin with a pin over Autumn Wertman of Emerald Ridge.
Sequim was also at the meet and while no Sequim wrestlers placed, the team garnered 14 points.
Port Angeles does not wrestle again until Jan 4 with a double dual with Tillamook, Ore. at W.F. West High School. Port Townsend is off until Jan. 4, when the girls wrestle at the Kelso Invite. The Redhawk boys will wrestle at the Sky Valley Invitational on Jan. 5. Sequim is off until Jan. 10 with an Olympic League 2A Division dual against Olympic.
Forks wins Mount Baker Invite
MOUNT BAKER — The Forks boys got three first-place finishes and placed wrestlers in nearly every weight class to win the Gus Compton Mount Baker Wrestling Invitational.
Colton Duncan won at 132 pounds, Colby Demorest won at 182 and Luke Dahlgren won at 285 in Thursday’s meet.
Dahlgren got a measure of revenge in his championship match, beating Sven Lukner of Sedro-Woolley 4-2. In the championship match a week earlier at the Hammerhead Invitational, Lukner beat Dahlgren, but had to go to sudden death overtime to do it.
The Spartans also had four second-place finishers, with two of those wrestlers losing to their Forks teammates in the championship match.
Finishing second were Ariel Morales at 132 (he lost to Duncan), Hayden Queen at 160, Josh Salazar at 182 (who lost to Demorest) and Eden Cisneros at 220 pounds.
In all, the Spartans placed 14 wrestlers in 12 out of the 14 weight classes. The Spartans ended up with 209.5 points, easily besting second-place Mount Baker, which had 163.

Forks next wrestles at The Rock tournament on Vashon Island on Saturday. The Forks girls will wrestle at the Rogers Holiday Invite Thursday in Puyallup.
