VOLLEYBALL: Sequim sweeps past pesky Port Angeles

Service runs lift Wolves in rivalry match

PORT ANGELES — Strong serving runs by Sequim freshman Tegan Nethery and junior Sophie Greenleaf lifted the Wolves past rival Port Angeles 25-19, 25-19, 25-15 in an Olympic League volleyball match Thursday night.

“That was our goal [getting the sweep], coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. We didn’t want to let it drag out or let up and let them back in it. We did let them back in it a couple of times, but we were able to hold them off. We were trying to get more blocks, get our hands up so their hitters know they have to be more accurate.”

Nethery posted a 10-point run with three aces in the first game and finished 12-of-12 with two kills and two stuff blocks.

Greenleaf led an eight-point run in game two, with two aces.

Sydney Clark added four kills,

Kassi Montero also went 12-for-12 on serves with eight digs, six perfect passes and three kills

Kenzi Berglund was 14-of-16 with three aces, 15 assists, six kills and two digs.

Roughriders coach Alyssa Wetzler called it “a great match, a tough battle.”

“We’ve been working on being intentional with every touch on the ball and the girls are getting it,” she said. “They came out on fire in the beginning of each set, having some amazing rallies. The girls are consistently improving and I’m excited for our future matches.”

Senior Kenzie Moses was 5-of-6 serving, with seven kills, six digs and two assists

Sophomore Juno Rognlien was 15-of-15 serving with two aces, six digs and four kills
