TRACK & FIELD: Port Angeles boys and girls set 46 personal records at home meet

PORT ANGELES — Powerful North Kitsap track and field teams swept the boys and girls meets at a six-team Class 1B/2A meet hosted by Port Angeles on Thursday.

The Roughriders boys set 30 personal records at the event and were second with 128 points while the Vikings piled up 296 team points. Crescent and Neah Bay also competed.

Port Angeles claimed three individual event wins and also ran down a win the 4×400 relay.

Jack Gladfelter set a personal record time on his way to a win in the 800 meters in two minutes, 3.o7 seconds and also claimed the 1,600 in 4:43.82.

Jason Gladfelter sprinted to a win in the 40o in 57.56, just ahead of teammate Tymur Lytvak who set a personal best of 58.76 seconds.

Lytvak, Naaman McGuffey, Parker Nickerson and Jack Gladfelter teamed up to take the 4×400 relay in 3:49.64.

Titus White threw the javelin 119-01.5 to post a second-place finish, Crescent’s best individual performance.

Conner Ferro-May was third in the discus (105).

Junior Paul Greene had Neah Bay’s best finish, setting a new personal record in the 300 hurdles in 54.38.

North Kitsap posted 184 team points to claim the girls meet, ahead of Kingston (132) and Port Angeles (116).

Girls meet highlights

The Roughriders posted 16 personal-bests and won four individual events, highlighted by senior Jayde Gedelman’s personal-best throw of 103-03 in the javelin.

Sophomore Maya Gentry claimed the triple jump with a mark of 28-09, while senior Kennedy Bruch won the shot put with a distance of 29-07.5.

Port Angeles freshman Faerin Tait set a new best time of 56:09 to win the 300 hurdles.

Tait and Bruch also teamed with Gracie Townsend and Zakara Braun for a second-place finish in the 4×400 relay.

Crescent eighth-grader Naomii Sprague enjoyed a good day in the sprints, earning a first-place win in the 100 meters in a personal-best 14.27 and also setting a new record time while finishing second in the 200 (29.21). Sprague also was third in the 400 (1:10.87).

Katelyn Dunavent won the discus for the Loggers with the freshman hitting a mark of 77-10. She also finished third in the shot put and fourth in the javelin.

Neah Bay’s Ryana Moss had the best finishes for the Red Devils girls, ending up second in the 300 hurdles (58.18) and third in the 1,600 (6:08.6).

Jasmine Tinoco was Clallam Bay’s top-placing athlete, finishing fifth in the shot put (23-02).

Port Angeles will compete today at Snohomish’s Eason Invitational while Crescent, Neah Bay and Clallam Bay will participate in the North Olympic League Championships on May 6.
