PORT ANGELES — A number of Port Angeles teen swimmers won their events at the January Challenge held in Port Angeles.
Teams came from Seattle, Port Townsend, Poulsbo, Bainbridge Island and Silverdale for the Jan. 7 meet at the William Shore Memorial Pool
The most impressive performance was by 14-year-old Nadia Cole. Cole, a Port Angeles High freshman, placed first in all eight of her individual events — the 50-, 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle, the 100 and 200 breaststroke, the 200 backstroke and the 200 individual medley.
• Cameron Butler, 15, won three events — the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 200 backstroke and was part of the first-place Port Angeles 200 freestyle relay team. His brother Tristin, 17, finished first in the 400 IM, the 100 freestyle, the 100 backstroke and the 100 IM.
• Felicia Che, 14, placed first in the 50, 100 and 200 butterfly. Sierra Hunter, 16, was first in the 50 and 200 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Kenzie Johnson, 15, placed first in 200 freestyle.
• Cole, Che, Sonja Govertsen were also part of the first-place 200 freestyle relay team, while Cole, Che and Johnson were part of the winning 200 medley relay team.
• Rachel Cooper, 12, finished first in 200 breastroke.
• Mackenzie DuBois, 11, won the 200 butterfly. She finished second in five other events — the 50 butterfly, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 100 IM and 500 freestyle.
• Colby Ellefson, 10, finished first in the 100 backstroke, and the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle.
• Alex Hertzog, 14, was first in the in 50 backstroke and 100 butterfly and was part of the 200 freestyle and 200 medley teams that took first.
• Emma Murray, 14, placed first in the 400 IM.
• Josh Gavin, 13, won the 50 freestyle and finished second in the 200 breaststroke, the 400 IM, the 100 freestyle, the 100 butterfly, the 100 backstroke and the 100 IM. He was also part of the 200 freestyle relay team that took first.
• Karsten Hertzog, 17, won the 200 freestyle. Emma Murray, 14, placed first in the 400 IM and Blake Nahory, 9, finished first in 50 and 100 breaststroke.
• Jack Root, 8, finished first in 25 freestyle. Finn Thompson, 9, finished first in the 50 butterfly, the 50 freestyle, the 100 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Adam Weller, 12, placed first in the 100 breaststroke and the 100 and 400 IM.
