Sports: Sequim High School student captures state honors

YAKIMA — Sequim High School golfer Adam Columbia, a junior, captured fifth in the Class 3A state championships held at the Apple Tree Golf Course on Wednesday and Thursday.

Columbia, who won the 3A West Central District title last weekend, shot a par 72 the first day of the competition and a 2-under 70 on Thursday to give him a total of 142.

Freshman Joel Dahmen of Clarkston shot a 5-under 67 on Thursday and a 73 Wednesday to win the tournament with a final score of 140.

Last year Columbia placed 17th at state.

Bellingham won the team title with 81.5 points. Sequim placed sixth with a score of 46.5

On the girls side, Sequim’s Chelsea Pettibone, also a junior, took eighth place.
