PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School boys basketball team came back from a 15-point halftime deficit to win its season opener 63-60 over Spanaway Lake on Saturday in a nonleague game.
“I thought that we really, as a team, came out in the second half,”‘ said Roughriders coach Lee Sinnes. “Especially in the fourth quarter.”
Port Angeles outscored Spanaway Lake 19-6 in the fourth.
The Riders were led by center Scott Helpenstell who had 25 points and nine rebounds. Nineteen of Helpenstell’s points came in the second half.
“When we really decided to get the ball into our post kids, we took the game over,” said Sinnes.
