PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles baseball team treated their fans to a wet-and-wild ride as the Roughriders defeated Shelton 10-6 in Narrows League play on Wednesday.
The Roughriders (3-1 in league, 7-1 overall) started the game off aggressively, tacking on three runs in the first inning, led by a two-run standup double from junior Chris Stone.
The lead was short-lived for the Riders as starting pitcher Cameron LeDuke was nailed for three runs in the fourth, giving Shelton a 5-4 lead.
LeDuke (2-0) went 5 1/3 innings on the mound for Port Angeles, giving up six runs on 10 hits, with seven strikeouts.
“Once again, this was not his best game,” Port Angeles coach Bob Withrow said about LeDuke. “He’s competitive, and just wants to do well by the team.”
The Roughriders answered right back in the bottom of the inning, picking up two runs — led by a bases-loaded squeeze bunt from Stone, giving Port Angeles a 6-5 lead.
Stone finished the day 3-for-3 at the plate for the Riders, rattling off a single, double, triple and five RBIs.
In the last two games, Stone is hitting .556 with seven RBIs.
“He’s been tearing it up lately,” Withrow said. “He is always around the big play, and finds a way to get the ball in.”
