Sports: Port Angeles High falls to Gig Harbor in golf

PORT ANGELES — Gig Harbor, one of the top boys golf teams in the state, beat Port Angeles in a Narrows League showdown match Wednesday at Peninsula Golf Club.

The Tides scored 171 points in modified scoring to the Roughriders’ 115.

Port Angeles (2-1 league, 3-2 overall) has lost twice in the league in the past two years and both times it was to Gig Harbor.

Gig Harbor’s Jesse Bibee was the meet medalist with a 2-under 70 while two teammates were right behind him.

Matt Scherer shot 71 and Giff Olsen had a 72.

Port Angeles ace David Mattie captured fourth place overall with a 76, good for 32 points. He had one birdie and 12 pars.

Chad Kennedy was right behind with a 78 for 30 points. Kennedy had two birdies and nine pars.
