Sports: Port Angeles girls lose game at last second

PORT ANGELES — South Kitsap’s Megan Gilbert sank a running jump shot with two seconds to play and time ran out on the Port Angeles High School girls basketball team in a 56-54 Narrows League loss Wednesday night.

The Roughriders (4-5 in league, 8-7 overall) took a 4-2 lead in the opening minutes and didn’t trail again until less than a minute remained in the game.

Gilbert, who went scoreless in the first quarter before finishing with a team-high 19 points, gave the Wolves (6-3, 10-5) a 53-52 lead with less than a minute to play and Jamie Boyer made one of two free throws to up South Kitsap’s lead.

Port Angeles’ Alle Petty sank a pair of clutch foul shots with 14 seconds to play but they left South Kitsap just enough time to drive the length of the floor and get the ball to its senior star.
