KINGSTON — Kingston nipped Port Townsend 2-1 in girls soccer Tuesday night.
The Redskins’ (0-2-0, 2-2-0) defense lapsed for just a moment before halftime and the Buccaneers took advantage to score and take the lead into halftime.
Kingston added a goal in the 70th minute before Port Townsend freshman Irina Lyons ran onto a through ball from Khloe Frank and fired it into the net for the Redskins’ lone score.
Elena Akins and Jennifer Grauberger were outstanding in defense and Frank once again dominated the midfield for the Redskins.
The team had only 14 players suited up and eligible for the game.
“The work rate of the entire team is impressive and we wait to see what we can do with a full, fit squad,” coach Colin Foden said.
Port Townsend hosts North Mason on Tuesday.

Montesano 9, Forks 0
MONTESANO — Forks dropped a road game to league foe Montesano on Tuesday night.
“There were a few good points,” Spartans coach Todd McDowell said.
“They did well checking some passing lanes and being able to pressure the ball.”
Montesano had 49 shots on goal and Spartans goal keeper Denise Rodriguez had 40 saves.
Volleyball Port Townsend 3, Kingston 0
KINGSTON — The Redskins remained unbeaten with a three-set sweep of the Buccaneers 25-19, 25-21, 25-14 on Tuesday.
“We got off to a rocky start in the first game,” Port Townsend (2-0, 2-0) coach Nettie Witheridge said.
“The rest of the match the girls worked very well together, keeping their plays smart and their heads in the game.”
Brook Nutter had seven aces, Christine Unrue had six assists and Katie Pollock had five kills and five aces for Port Townsend.
The Redskins host North Mason next Tuesday.
Vashon 3, Chimacum 1
CHIMACUM — The Cowboys (1-2, 3-2) were missing a key player and struggled against the Pirates in a Nisqually League match Wednesday night.
Vashon Island won 25-22, 25-17, 16-25, 25-21.
Chimacum doesn’t play again until Sept. 25 against Charles Wright.
