FORKS — Scott Justus returns as head coach of the Forks High School boys basketball team, two seasons after leaving for a short-lived stint in Whatcom County.
He comes home to a Spartans team expected to flourish in two years but facing possible growing pains.
Sophomores Jordan Justus (5-foot-11 point guard), Kevin Silcox (6-4 post) and D.J. Huggins (6-3 post) should all see playing time on a squad that will likely suit up only 10 varsity players.
Jordan Justus is the coach’s son and averaged seven points as a freshman.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Scott Justus said of his return to Forks, where he compiled a 68-32 record in four previous seasons (1997-2001) as head boys coach.
He was hired away as head coach at Nooksack Valley for the 2001-2002 season but left after the school district superintendent there expressed displeasure.
“Everything worked out except the superintendent didn’t like the coach and he happens to be the boss,” Justus said last week.
“You don’t realize how good you’ve got it until you’re gone, so I’m very happy to be back.”
