PORT ANGELES — This was just the kind of game the Peninsula College men’s basketball team expected.
The Pirates jumped out to a 15-point lead in the first half against Seattle on Wednesday night, but the visitors lived up to their name and stormed back to tie it at 71 with 4:20 to play.
Peninsula then went on an 11-5 run and held on for an 82-76 win in a matchup of the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges North Division.
The Pirates (9-1 North Division, 15-5 overall) held on to the top spot in front of some 200 fans gathered for one of two home games during Pirate Pete’s spirit week. Peninsula hosts third-place Edmonds at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Fans broke into cheers of “We’re No. 1, we’re No. 1” after Wednesday’s win.
