PORT ANGELES — Hundreds of marathon runners were registering for the North Olympic Discovery Marathon and picking up their packets Saturday, filling up area hotels and motels.
The Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., was filled by early Saturday afternoon. The hotel is serving as the registration site as well as the start-and-finish point for the 13.1-mile half-marathon and the finish line for the 26.2-mile marathon.
The marathon race starts today at 9 a.m. at Sequim’s Carrie Blake Park, while the half-marathon begins at the same time at the Port Angeles City Pier.
Both races finish at the City Pier.
There were close to 600 runners registered for the two races by 4 p.m. Saturday, according to race organizer Larry Little. That’s almost 100 more than had been registered by Tuesday evening.
