Sports: Gold comes to Port Angeles in form of wrestler Bruce Baumgartner

PORT ANGELES — World-famous wrestler Bruce Baumgartner will get quite the welcome when his plane lands in Port Angeles on Sunday.

Baumgartner, one of the most popular wrestlers in the world, will be the featured draw for the Olympic Mountain Wrestling Camp to be held at Port Angeles High School this coming Monday through Thursday.

“Bruce’s appearance here is huge,” Port Angeles High School wrestling coach Erik Gonzalez said back on June 11 when he first announced Baumgartner’s impending visit to his youth camp. “We will roll out the red carpet for him the minute he lands at Fairchild (International Airport) until he leaves.”

True to his word, Gonzalez has set up a red-carpet welcome complete with an appearance by the U.S. Coast Guard Color Guard, music and refreshments. Gonzalez invites the public to the festivities.
