WOODLAND — The Forks Spartans volleyball team moved one step closer to state after taking one of two matches in Class 2A Southwest Washington District play on Wednesday.
The Spartans fell to LaCenter High School 25-17, 17-25, 25-19, 25-16 in the first match of the evening.
Following the loss Forks then went into a do-or-die match against Montesano High School where it won in five games.
The scores were 26-24, 16-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13.
“It definitely took the whole team to pull this one out,”‘ Spartan head coach Patty Brandt said. “I still don’t know how I made it through these matches.”
Forks was led on offense by Annie Crippen, who had 35 assists combined in the two matches.
Steph Weed led the Spartans in the two matches with 12 kills, followed by Kelly Santman with 11, Avery Ironhill with 11 and Tessa Leppell with nine.
