YAKIMA — The Forks High School boys and girls basketball teams survived to play another day in the Class 2A state tournament by doing the things that got them there in the first place.
For the boys, that meant using their tall posts — senior D.J. Huggins in particular — to beat down a smaller Ridgefield front line on their way to a 49-38 victory.
Huggins scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Spartans, who attempted only two 3-pointers the entire game, to key the Forks win.
On the girls side, it was the Spartans’ high-pressure press defense that enabled Forks to dispatch Ephrata 38-31 after weathering a spirited late-game rally.
