JOYCE — After two seasons at the helm, Crescent High School’s boys basketball head coach Mike Lippert is calling it quits.
“Due to time constraints and other restricting factors, I find I cannot give the program the assistance necessary to build the program in a manner it needs to be built,” Lippert said.
“This fine school deserves a person with the availability and proximity to conduct the grass roots level program necessary to promote growth, stability and excellence on the basketball floor.”
Lippert, who came to Crescent two years ago after transferring from Sequim High School, worked very hard for two years, trying to establish a foundation for the program.
During the 2004-05 season, Lippert’s teaching load began to increase, as well as his duties at home as a foster parent.
Despite making the tough decision, Lippert still had time to reflect on the past season and the memories that had come from it.
“The highlight of the two years would have to be taking the team to Kodiak, Alaska, in December of 2004 for a tournament,” Lippert said. “The kids came home from that trip with a great feeling of accomplishment.”
Forks finished the 2005 basketball season at 13-2 in Southwest Washington League play, earning them a trip to districts.
Although he will step down from the basketball program, Lippert is expected to stay on in his teaching position.
Crescent will begin the search for a new head coach immediately along with an open chemistry/physics math position.
