CHIMACUM — A group of Chimacum High School sophomores playing together since fifth grade is ready to make an impact in the Nisqually League girls basketball standings.
Jovi Monroe, Bethany Friedrich, Caitlin Eldridge, Chantel Arey and Kaity Gale started playing together on a traveling team while in elementary school.
Junior Paige Worley also played on that team and all, except Gale, played on the varsity team last year.
“We’re just going to get better every year,” second-year Chimacum girls coach Jim Eldridge said last week.
Eldridge, Caitlin Eldridge’s dad, leads a team that went 6-16 overall last season but still made the 2A subdistrict tournament.
“I think they’ll come around,” Jim Eldridge said. “We’ll be real competitive this year, I think.”
Gale, a 5-foot-9 forward/post, returns to the team this season after spending last year in Idaho while her family renovated a house there.
The Cowboys lost four players from last season to graduation.
