Sports: Babe Ruth softball regionals begin today in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — North Olympic is hosting the Pacific Northwest Babe Ruth softball regional 16-under and 12-under tournaments starting today and lasting through Sunday.

Winners from the two tournaments advance to the World Series of each age group.

Round-robin play will be today and Friday with double-elimination action on Saturday and Sunday. All games are slated for the Lincoln Park fields.

The championship games are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday with a second game set for 4 p.m. if the consolation winner beats the championship-bracket team in the first game.

Four teams will compete in each tournament. In the 12-U tourney, host team North Olympic will be joined by Ellensburg, Othello and West Kootenay, British Columbia.

The 16-U teams include North Olympic, Kittitas County, West End and West Kootenay.

Members of the Port Angeles 12-U team include Ashlye Wasnock, Jayden Hoover, Molly Ward, Cassi Teel, Lauren Hendrickson, Neeya Hansen, Danielle Grall, Jamie Curtis, Sasha Zichella, Ambyr Riehl, Samantha Zavodny, Crysania Morganroth, Janessa Scott and Sonja Elofson.

Jayson Grice is the team manager while Bill Lammie and Brad Teel are the coaches.

Members of the North Olympic 16-U team are Christine Signes, Ashley Lowe-Thaens, Taria Henrickson, Britney Balch, Tristen Tamblyn, Lindsay Norberg, Laura Campbell, Kayla Ralston, Megan Ramsey, Kelly Henderson, Jennifer Monroe, Kati McCaslin, Brandy Williams and Cassandra Little.

Warren Stevens is the manager while Rick Pennington and Mel Hendrickson are coaches.

Today’s opening ceremony starts at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Park. The first games begin at noon today and 11 a.m. on Friday.
