The North Olympic Peninsula will be well represented at the state high school cross country championships in Pasco on Saturday.
There will be 30 runners and four complete teams from the Peninsula. The Port Angeles Roughriders are sending their entire boys and girls teams while the Port Townsend Redskins will send their boys squad and two individual girls, while the Sequim Wolves will send their girls team.
The 35th annual boys state meet and the 29th annual girls championships are scheduled for the Sun Willows Golf Course. Nearly 1,030 prep athletes representing 210 high schools will be competing in the races.
This could be the best-ever year for cross country on the North Olympic Peninsula, according to long-time Sequim coach Harold Huff.
“I don’t remember so many teams from the Peninsula going to state the same year,” Huff said. “I’m so proud of all the teams on the Peninsula.”
