SONNY SIXKILLER CLASSIC: Irwin Dental Center team takes first

SEQUIM — The Irwin Dental team of Todd Irwin, Jason Doig, Jade Tisdale, Matt Averill and University of Washington’s Joe Jarzynka beat 39 other teams to win the 10th annual Sonny Sixkiller UW Husky Celebrity Golf Classic at the Cedars at Dungeness on Friday.

Jarzynka was a placekicker, punt returner and kick returner for the Huskies.

The event raised a record net of $91,000 for the Olympic Medical Center Foundation, co-organizer of the tournament along with the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.

The tournament consisted of 40 foursomes along with a UW Huskies celebrity playing a scramble format. Irwin Dental shot a 19-under-par 53, winning a scorecard playoff over the second-place team of Michael Littman, Sid Krumpe, Mark Mitrovich, Tyler Sweet and former Huskies track coach Greg Metcalf. This team also shot a 53.

Finishing third was a team of Les Martin, Brett Bradley, Andy Ochs, Garrett Smithson and former Huskies star Lincoln Kennedy with a 17-under-par 55. Winning fourth in a tiebreaker was a team of Todd Negus, Paul Reed, Bill Evestad, Chad Wagner and former Husky Mark Lee with a 16-under-par 56.

Other winners include: Chipping — Jerid Anderson, Norm Cartwright, Derek D’Ambrosio, John Hylton and Omare Lowe. Long drive — Ray Horton. Straight Drive No. 6 — Steve Hall. Closest to the Pin — Rob Treece, Frank Catelli, Tyler Sweet and Jeremy Copeland.

Former UW star quarterback Sonny Sixkiller hosted the event, which featured famous Huskies such as Steve Emtman, Robin Earl, Kevin Gogan as well as Olympic Peninsula Huskies such as Matt Lane, Scott Jones and Derrin Doty.

The event was sponsored by Wilder Auto, Irwin Dental Center, Lakeside Industries, Swinerton Builders, with the dinner and auction sponsored by D.A. Davidson.
