SEQUIM STATE PLAYOFFS: Soccer girls to play Wednesday, football to play Friday, both games at Silverdale Stadium

SEQUIM — The Sequim football team will play its 2A state playoff game at Silverdale Stadium in Silverdale at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The 9-1 Wolves, seeded No. 8 in the 2A state playoffs, technically will be the home team, hosting No. 9 seed Steilacoom, also 9-1. Steilacoom is the champion of the South Division of the South Puget Sound 2A League.

Sequim qualified for the state tournament by beating Franklin Pierce 22-20 in its West Central District playoff game Friday.

Steilacoom beat Orting 42-8 to qualify for the state 2A playoffs.

The winner of this game will likely face undefeated Hockinson, the No. 1 seed in 2A. Hockinson is playing No. 16 seed Washington this weekend.

Soccer is Wednesday

The Sequim soccer girls, champions of the West Central District III tournament, had their state 2A tournament game moved to Wednesday. They also will play at Silverdale Stadium at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Ellensburg.

Sequim (10-8-1) has won nine games out of 10. The Wolves were a No. 4 seed in district out of the Olympic League A Division, but they swept three straight games at district to the win the tournament championship, beating North Kitsap 1-0 Saturday to claim the title.

Ellensburg is 13-4-0 on the season.

The weather is forecast to be partly cloudy for both games, though it could be chilly as Wednesday night is forecast to get down into the mid-30s and Friday night, it should get down to about 40.
