RUN THE PENINSULA: Larry Scott Trail Run set for Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — The fifth annual Run the Peninsula Larry Scott Trail run will take place Saturday in and around Port Townsend.

The race, the fourth of five Run the Peninsula events during the year, begins with the half-marathon at 8:30 a.m. with the 5K and 10K beginning at 9:30 a.m. About 450 participants are expected for all three races.

The race begins and ends at the Port of Port Townsend Boat Haven trailhead with all three races following out-and-back courses through the Port Townsend area.

The event is put on by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, which also puts on the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in June between Blyn and Port Angeles. The event is made possible by title sponsors Peninsula Daily News and the Sequim Gazette and presenting sponsors Jefferson Healthcare and Olympic Medical Center.

Proceeds from the event go toward several organizations, including the Peninsula Trails Coalition, which builds and maintains the Olympic Discovery Trail.

The final Run the Peninsula event will be held Dec. 2 in Blyn for the Jamestown S’Klallam Glow Run.

Other Run the Peninsula events include the Elwha Bridge Run in February, the Sequim Railroad Bridge Run in April and the North Olympic Discovery Marathon.
