PREPS: Sequim’s Schmadeke, Dearinger combine on 1-hit shutout

SEQUIM — Sequim pitchers Zeke Schmadeke and Devyn Dearinger combined on a one-hit shutout as the Wolves shut out Kingston 6-0 in an Olympic League baseball contest Wednesday.

Lincoln Bear’s two-run double highlighted the Wolves’ five-run fourth inning.

Ethan Staples added an RBI single and Connor Oase came through with a two-run single as Sequim seized control.

Schmadeke also went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a run, while Dearinger stole a base and scored.

BELFAIR — A five-run fifth inning doomed the Roughriders in the rainy road half of a two-game Olympic League set with the Bulldogs.

Alex Angevine provided an early spark, stealing home to put Port Angeles up 1-0 after one inning.

Angevine’s line-drive double to center field led off the game, and Angevine moved to third on Kody William’s single to left.

Angevine and Williams then pulled off a double steal on an 0-1 count to go up 1-0.

Starting pitcher Brayden Martin threw four scoreless innings for the Riders, allowing two hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Port Angeles got into trouble in the bottom of the sixth, as reliever Maeson Grice allowed a single and a walk before being pulled for Brandt Perry.

Perry loaded the bases with a walk before giving up three runs on back-to-back singles, an error and a passed ball.

The Riders got one back in the sixth when Luke Flodstrom walked, Rylan Politika singled and courtesy runner Ian Smithson came home on Nathan Basden’s fielders’ choice. Port Angeles loaded the bases later in the frame but couldn’t bring any more runs across.

The Riders (1-1, 1-2) are set to host Nathan Hale today at 4:15 p.m. at Civic Field.
