SEQUIM — Three Sequim swimmers acheived personal best times and the Wolves made strides in technical areas in a 103-58 Olympic League swim and dive meet loss to North Kitsap, according to coaches Cherise Feser and Sarah Thorson.
“Our team made great improvements with important details such as turns and starts,” Feser said.
Tilly Woods cut 24 seconds from her 100-yard breaststroke in one minute, 57.28 seconds.
Ashlyn Sol trimmed 11 seconds from her 200 freestyle for a time of 3:06:24.
Naomi Beglyakov cut two seconds from her 500 freestyle to finish in 7:18.10.
Emma Rhodes also improved her time in the 100 free by 3 seconds, and Violet Phillips improved her 50 free by 3 seconds as well.
“We have had some challenges with sickness, but the team is on the mend,” Feser said.
The Wolves host East Jefferson on Wednesday.
Girls Soccer Bainbridge 2, Port Angeles 0
BAINBRIDGE — The Roughriders came away from this one feeling better than after an early season 4-0 home defeat to the Spartans, now ranked No. 5 in the WIAA Class 2A RPI.
“We talked about how this was better all-around soccer, even better than we played them to penalty kick shootout in the district tournament last season,” coach Daniel Horton said.
“This game we were toe-to-toe with them even after going down. We never backed down, we played well-rounded soccer. Unfortunately, Bainbridge has the ability to convert on mistakes almost any time you make them.”
Bainbridge found the net in the 16th and 29th minutes.
“In the 16th minute we were in position, they were pushing toward our goal on left side, they sent a ball in to the box and instead of getting a good clearance on it, it went out to the 18-yard box, they made one pass and then buried it from the top of the 18,” Horton said.
“We played another stretch of good soccer, then we fouled in a bad spot. We got too aggressive and fouled outside of the 18-yard box and they put in a great free kick from right to the upper left corner of the goal.”
Horton said Port Angeles had opportunities, including a Pyper Alton free kick that hit the post and an Emma Desjardins shot that was tip saved over the bar in the second half.
Bainbridge’s (9-0, 9-1) game plan defensively was to make sure to know Desjardins, who leads the Riders with 14 goals, location on the field at all times.
“I thought we played our best socccer for 75 minutes of the 80-minute game,” Horton said.
Port Angeles (6-3, 8-3) hosts Olympic on Tuesday.
Sequim 2, North Mason 1
BELFAIR — Senior Kiley Winter scored a golden goal assisted by Ruby Horgan-Moxley and the Wolves escaped with an overtime victory against the Bulldogs.
Sequim went up 1-0 in the 17th minute when Horgan-Moxley scored off an assist from Raimey Brewer.
North Mason equalized in the 67th minute and the two teams chased for the winning score for the remainder of the match.
Sequim (3-4, 4-5) host Bainbridge on Tuesday.
Volleyball Sequim 3, North Mason 1
BELFAIR — The Wolves struggled with their service game but still had enough to beat the Bulldogs 25-20, 18-25, 25-20, 25-19.
“We kind of settled down a little bit in the later games,” coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. “We ended up missing 18 serves, that’s not good. We still had 10 aces to their seven.”
Rose Gibson led Sequim with 10 kills, recorded three aces and had 13 digs defensively.
Jordyn Julmist added nine kills, an ace, two assists and 13 digs.
Kassi Montero served 17-of-20 with three aces, eight kills and 13 digs.
Kenzi Berglund also served 17-for -20 with two aces, two kills, 29 assists and nine digs.
Sequim (7-2, 8-3) will play in the Capital City Invite in Olympia today.
Busy week for PA
BAINBRIDGE — After beating North Mason Tuesday, the Riders had a tough pair of back-to-back contests this week, falling 25-20, 25-15, 25-22 to North Kitsap on Wednesday and 25-14, 25-12, 25-8 to unbeaten Bainbridge on Thursday.
Against North Kitsap, Jordin Dunaway had 11 kills, served 5-for-6 with four digs, three perfect passes and an assist.
Juno Rognlien served 13-of-14 with seven kills, 10 digs and three perfect passes.
Hannah Hairell (11-for-11) and Chloe Clark (13-for-13) each served perfectly with an ace apiece.
Hairell added three kills and six digs while Clark had four kills, five perfect passes and 19 digs.
Hailey Castor had 15 assists and seven digs and London Bourland added three kills and three digs.
“We played so well!! North Kitsap always brings a good game and we absolutely competed mentally and physically,” coach Alyssa Wetzler said.
“Our defense was passing up strong attacks and our offense was connecting well and getting kills. It takes the whole team to compete against strong opponents, and every single player was engaged. This team continues to grow each and every day.”
