PREP TENNIS: Sequim doubles duo advances to league championship

Peninsula Daily News

POULSBO — Sequim’s No. 1 doubles duo of Jessica Dietzman and Kalli Wiker advanced to today’s Olympic League Girls Tennis Championship doubles final after cruising through the first day of competition Wednesday at North Kitsap High School.

Dietzman and Wiker opened with a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set victory over the tournament’s No. 16 seeded duo of Jocelyn Reifenstahl and Emily Metzler of Port Angeles, then knocked off No.8 North Kitsap’s Eunice Moran and Victoria Carver and knocked off the No. 4 seeded duo, Olympic’s Brooklyn Haro and Sydney Troy, in the semifinals.

Dietzman and Wiker are now 11-0 on the season, and regardless of today’s outcome, will compete in the Class 2A West Central District Tournament at the Kitsap County Tennis Center in Bremerton next Friday and Saturday.

Sequim singles players Isabelle Hugoniot and Tea Gauthun will face each other in the consolation bracket today after each went 2-1 in matches on Wednesday. The winner will advance to the district tournament and could finish as high as third.

The Wolves’ Olivia Preston also has a shot at advancing, but will need to win two matches to reach the district tournament, as will Sequim doubles pair McKenna Hastings and Ashley Rosales.

Summer Olsen is the lone Port Angeles player remaining in the tournament.

Olsen, seeded sixth, defeated North Mason’s Kaylie Green 6-1, 6-0, but fell to North Kitsap’s Anna Bronchal 6-1, 6-2. Olsen rebounded to stay alive in consolation play, knocking off 16-seed Geneva Newell of North Kitsap 6-3, 6-2. She will need to win one match today to finish in the top six and advance to the district tourney.

The Riders’ Hailey Horton lost two singles matches and was eliminated Wednesday as were the Port Angeles doubles teams of Reifenstahl and Metzler and Saige Hefton and Camryn Mason.
