PREP SPORTS: Forks boys soccer earns win over Tenino on PKs

Forks Spartans

TENINO — The Forks soccer team, twice down by a goal, scored two answering goals, played defense for a long stretch and then won a penalty kick shootout 4-1 to pick up a road victory over Tenino on Monday.

Tenino went up 1-0 early on a penalty kick goal, but Forks answered.

“In the 15th minute, we earned a free kick and DeAnthony Davila took the kick and got it over to Royer [Pablo], and Yosgart Gonzalez scored off a nice volley from the top of the 18-yard box,” coach Ismael Ramos said.

With Tenino up 2-1 after a 24th minute score, Forks again found the net from a set piece.

“We ended up getting another free kick and Margarito Gonzalez got the free kick over the line and Mateo [Lucas] was able to control it first touch and hit it right into the back of the net,” Ramos said.

The two squads couldn’t find the net in regulation over two five-minute overtimes.

“Second half, we were more dominant on the ball and played more on their side of the field but couldn’t convert our shots,” Ramos said.

“Goalkeeper Juan Terrones had a great save at the end of overtime. If he doesn’t make that save, we don’t go to PKs,” he said.

Forks (5-5, 5-6) hosts Montesano (9-2, 9-2) tonight.
