PREP SPORTS: All fall sports for Olympic League moved to spring

SEQUIM — All fall prep sports for the Olympic League have now been postponed to late December at the earliest due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Football, girls soccer and volleyball had already been postponed to the spring. Joining these sports are cross-country, girls swimming and boys tennis, according to Sequim Athletic Director Dave Ditlefsen.

Ditlefsen said that Kitsap schools had made the decision to not offer sports while its students were kept home for distance learning, the rest of the Olympic League followed suit. Four Olympic League schools — Kingston, North Kitsap, Olympic and Bremerton — are in Kitsap County.

That would have left Sequim, Port Angeles and North Mason to try and cobble together some sort of fall season with no Kitsap schools.

New schedules will be released later this month with start dates for each sport, Ditlefsen said.

Winter sports are set to start Dec. 27, followed by the postponed fall sports March 1 and spring sports April 26. Each season will play 70 percent of its regular season, mostly league games, followed by a one-week district playoff and a one-week state playoff.
