PREP SOCCER: Rivals drop senior night tilt, Riders win big

PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson dropped its Nisqually League girls soccer contest with Vashon 4-0 at Memorial Field on Tuesday.

“This isn’t the result we wanted for our senior night,” coach Robert Cantley said. “We weren’t playing terribly, Vashon just had a little bit more going forward. Vashon took the chances they were creating and made something of them and we had trouble doing that.”

Cantley said that his team also has shown a little wear-and-tear as the season wears on.

“A little fatigue has been creeping in, there’s been a little disconnect between our back line and our forwards,” Cantley said.

He had praise for defender Teri Wiley and goalkeeper Lila Anderson.

“Teri was the usual suspect back there in defense and Lila was outstanding. Our three seniors (RJ Spanhower-Oas, Sarah Fisher and Paula Ibarra) were all playing with smiles.”

East Jefferson (0-5-1, 2-9-1) visits the Life Christian/Charles Wright team today.

Port Angeles 3, Olympic 0

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders controlled every aspect of their match with the Trojans, outshooting Olympic 23-1.

Emma Desjardins scored her 15th goal of the season in the 28th minute assisted by Stella Fradkin to break the 0-0 tie and contributed an assist on teammate Fradkin’s goal in the 55th minute.

“Stella was our super sub in the first half and did really well, so she got to start the second half and probably played her best match,” coach Daniel Horton said.

Mariah Traband added the final score off of an assist by Lilly Anne Lancaster in the 70th minute.

“That was a really solid through ball from Lilly in the midfield, it got behind the defense and it was perfectly paced for Mariah to run on and score 1-on-1 against the goalie,” Horton said.

“We did a better job of playing our style of soccer in the second half.”

The Riders (7-3, 9-3) visit North Kitsap (9-1, 10-2) tonight.

Bainbridge 7, Sequim 1

SEQUIM — The first-place Spartans proved to be too powerful for the Wolves’ attack.

Sequim (4-6, 4-7) visits Olympic on Thursday.
