SEQUIM — Thanks to a sweep from the Roughriders’ singles players, Port Angeles just got past Sequim 4-3 in a tightly contested boys tennis matchup in Sequim.
Sequim won three out of the four doubles matches, with all four matches going to tiebreakers in at least one set.
In singles play, the best match was between Port Angeles’ Owen Leitz and Sequim’s Wyatt Perez. Leitz came from behind to win in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Port Angeles’ Sky Gelder beat Sequim’s Lincoln Bear 6-4, 6-2, while Grant Butterworth beat Zach Post 6-0, 6-1.
Abe Brenkman and Kyhler Thompson earned the team win for the Riders by beating Nico Musso and Ianson Klinger in a tough doubles match 7-6, 7-6.
Sequim’s Mason Rapelje and Bjorn Henrickson beat Port Angeles’ Liam Miller and Jensen Wolfe 7-5, 6-3. Sebastian Buhrer and Ryan Stites of Sequim beat Port Angeles’ Alik Ross and Jacob Oberly 7-5, 6-4 and finally Tegan Kurtze and Josh Loucks of Sequim beat Brett Manson and Gagan Seera of Port Angeles 6-2, 7-5.
Port Angeles hosts Bremerton at 3 p.m. today, while Sequim hosts North Kitsap at 3:30 p.m.
Girls Valleyball
East Jefferson 3, Klahowya 1
SILVERDALE — The East Jefferson volleyball team improved its record to 5-0 on the season, coming out on top in a hard-fought match 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20) over Nisqually League opponent Klahowya.
Kaydance Plotner lead the team in digs with a whopping 65, with Stephy Duran adding 31 digs. Plotner also had four aces.
Penina Vailolo and Dylin Shockley each had big matches, with Vailolo coming up with six blocks and 15 kills. Shockley had 13 kills.
East Jefferson (1-0, 5-0) looks to remain perfect on the season, hosting Vashon (0-1, 0-4) at 5 p.m. today.
