ARLINGTON — Numerous Port Angeles and East Jefferson runners participated in the Nike Hole in the Wall Cross Country Invitational with East Jefferson’s Aliyah Cassidy Yearian making a strong showing as a top-15 runner in the elite class.
Going up against the top prep runners in the Pacific Northwest, Yearian finished 13th with a time of 18:24.6 seconds, a little behind her Hole in the Wall time last year, but her second-best 5K time ever. Her teammate Fiona Fraser also had a good day, finishing 38th in the elite race with a solid time of 19:14.5.
Yearian and Fraser competed against 153 other elite runners, many from 3A and 4A schools, from Oregon, Idaho and Washington.
There were multiple classifications with thousands of Pacific Northwest runners competing.
In the men’s gold category, just a notch below elite, East Jefferson’s Soare Johnston finished 48th with a time of 16:59.98. That was out of 322 runners.
East Jefferson’s Grady White was 47th in the junior varsity bronze race with a time of 21:20.6, while his teammate Nico Errichetti was 51st at 21:27.7. That was out of 457 runners.
In the junior varsity silver race, East Jefferson’s Silas Klontz was 73rd at 20:08.8 and teammate Dustin Hines was 74th at 20:08.9. Port Angeles’ Piers Davis was 103rd at 20:33.6 and teammate Justin McLarty was 127th at 20:44.3. There were nearly 400 runners in this race.
In the varsity silver race, the best Olympic Peninsula time was Indigo Gould of East Jefferson, who came in 72nd with a time of 18:18.9. Klontz, running in his second race, was 73rd at 18:19.0 and teammates Joshua Yearian was 98th at 18:34.8 and Henri Huber was 111th at 18:41.0. Port Angeles’ Easton Dempsey was 116th with a time of 18:43.6. That race had 351 runners.
In the women’s varsity silver race, East Jefferson’s Sylvia Butterfield finished 103rd in a time of 22:22.2 and her teammate Leah Ferland was 123rd in a time of 22:42.0. Port Angeles’ Miriam Cobb was the top Roughrider with a time of 23:08.5, good for 152nd. There were 343 runners in that race.
