BELLINGHAM — The East Jefferson girls track and field team picked up some top four finishes and set a No. 1 1A time at the Birger Solberg Invitational held at Bellingham’s Civic Stadium on Saturday.
Nearly 60 schools from Washington, British Columbia and even Alaska competed in this huge event, including a number of 3A and 4A schools much bigger than East Jefferson’s squad.
The Rivals’ top finishes were by Aliyah Yearian in the 1,600 and the East Jefferson girls 4×800 relay team.
Yearian finished third with a time of 5 minutes, 9.19 seconds, shaving six seconds off her previous personal record. It was also the No. 1 1A girls time posted so far in the state by more than eight seconds. Yearian also has the No. 2 state mark at the 1A level in the 3,200 and the No. 3 800 time in the state set in previous meets this season.
The 4×800 team of Michael Gregg, Yearian, Fiona Fraser and Camryn Hines finished third in a time of 10:38.93, nearly nipping a 3A Ballard team that finished second, 0.11 of a second ahead of East Jefferson.
Fraser also picked up a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 meters with a personal-record time of 11:36.39. That is good for fifth-best statewide this season among 1A runners.
Hines also had a good showing in the 100 meters, finishing 12th in a time of 2:36.42, while Sienna Emerson was 13th in the 100 with a personal-record 13.55 and Kaylen Pray was 16th in the 200 in a time of 29.17.
The East Jefferson girls finished tied for 16th out of 35 schools.
The top finishes for the East Jefferson boys were 15th in the discus by Toby Fulton with a throw of 114 feet, 3 inches and 20th in the 3,200 by Soare Johnston with a time of 10:24.58.

Port Angeles 16, Mount Tahoma 0
TACOMA — The Port Angeles baseball team muscled up on offense for its biggest scoring output of the year and got second-straight shutout from its pitching staff in a 16-0 win over Mount Tahoma on Friday.
The Roughriders have now gone 12 straight innings without allowing a run. It was also the fourth shutout of the year for the Riders and their fourth win in their past five games. Rylan Politika started the game, going four innings and striking out nine while allowing just one hit. Weston Alward pitched one inning and allowed three hits, but no runs to score. He struck out one.
At the plate, the Riders tallied 18 hits with nearly every player in the lineup getting at least one hit. They scored nine runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
Alex Angevine had a big game, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, three RBIs and three stolen bases.
Kole Acker was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Ezra Townsend was 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored, four RBIs and two walks. Colten Romero was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, and Luke Flodstrom was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Blake Sohlberg had a hit, a run and two RBIs, while Jordan Shumway had a hit and two runs scored.
After three straight nonleague games over the spring break, the Riders (3-2, 6-3) return to Olympic League action with a game at Olympic (3-2, 6-4) on Monday, looking for vengeance against the Trojans, who beat Port Angeles earlier this season 6-5.
The Roughriders also host the Sequim Wolves (1-5, 3-5) at Civic Field at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
