PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Quilcene, Crescent win

TACOMA — The Quilcene Rangers got the best game of Isaac Figueroa’s career in crushing Charles Wright 60-30 on Saturday.

Figueroa, carrying most of the load with Robert Evans nursing a nagging injury, carried the ball 22 times for 275 yards and four touchdowns. On defense as the middle linebacker he made seven tackles.

Coach Darrin Dotson said Figueroa broke a lot of tackles and made a one spectacular run hurdling over a teammate, but he gave a lot of credit to the team’s lineman and their blocking. He said Evans also did a great job as the lead blocker for Figueroa and others.

“[It was] his experience in the backfield and his unselfishness in telling other running backs to ‘follow me’,” Dotson said.

Other players had big games. Hunter Simmons had six tackles and forced an interception. He also played well as an offensive lineman, Dotson said.

“Hunter was instrumental with his size and strength to neutralize Charles Wright’s blitzing linebackers and he assisted in numerous successful runs,” Dotson said.

Anikin Naputi forced a fumble and Ryder Thibodeau-Kjosen had seven tackles and three quarterback sacks.

Tyler Matheson had two interceptions, including a 25-yard pick-six late in the game to finish off the scoring. Oliver Hopkins rushed for 42 yards and Evans had 37 yards rushing and made nine tackles on defense.

Quilcene (1-3) will next host Muckleshoot Tribal at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Mikah Love had a 58-yard punt return and a 25-yard run for touchdowns. Loki Ellis had a 7-yard touchdown run.
