PREP BASEBALL: Sequim finishes season with victory

SEQUIM — The young Sequim baseball team has struggled this season, but finished its year with a 12-4 win over East Jefferson.

The Wolves also had a 4-0 lead late against Olympic earlier in the day, but weren’t able to hold it and lost 7-4.

In the nightcap, the Wolves got 14 hits and scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings to blow open a close game.

With the win, Sequim finished the season 2-12. East Jefferson finished 2-13.

Michael Grubb went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, four stolen bases and three RBIs, while Hayden Eaton went 2-for-3 with two doubles. He scored three runs and drove in two.

Zach McCracken went 3-for-3 with a run scored, a steal and three RBIs. Ricky Jennings went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three RBIs, and Connor Bear went 2-for-3 with a run scored, a steal and a walk.

A trio of Sequim pitchers struck out 13 batters and allowed just four hits. Grubb started, giving up two hits and no earned runs in three innings. He struck out six and walked three. Ricky Jennings went three innings and gave up two hits, allowed no earned runs and struck out five. McCracken struck out two in the final inning.

East Jefferson pitchers also struck out 13 batters. Hunter Cerna struck out 10 in five innings, while Owen Thornton struck out three in two innings.

East Jefferson managed just four hits, but had nine stolen bases. Josiah Pennington went 2-for-4 with a steal. Marcus Ritch and Thornton each had a hit and scored a run. Thornton also stole a pair of bases.

Gavin Lawson scored two runs and had three steals.

Against Olympic, Sequim scored four runs in the first inning, with Eaton and Jaxson Gray driving in runs with singles. The game remained tied 4-4 until the bottom of the sixth, when Olympic plated three runs to take a lead.

Grubb finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Eaton was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Aidyn Holland had a hit and a run scored, while Weston Opdyke had a hit.

Gray pitched the entire game, giving up eight hits.
