PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties sweep the Gumberoos after 9-1 victory

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties completed a three-game sweep over the Seattle Gumberoos, breaking out the bats again for 15 hits in a 9-1 victory at Civic Field.

The Lefties’ offensive eruption was highlighted by a three-run home run by Will White (Cal State San Bernardino) in the fifth inning. They poured it on in the eighth inning as the lineup batted around with six hits, scoring six more runs.

Until White’s bomb, the game was locked in a 0-0 tie. Lefties’ veteran Jack Joyce (Linn-Benton CC) pitched four scoreless innings and earned the victory. He allowed two hits, struck out four and walked one. The Lefties staff allowed just four hits for the game as the Gumberoos’ lone run was unearned.

In three games against the Gumberoos, the Lefties pounded out 41 hits. The sweep gives the Lefties (5-7 overall, 2-7 in West Coast League play) plenty of momentum as they travel to Wenatchee for a three-game series that began Friday against the Apple Sox.

White finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Taylor Kirk (Fordham) was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Garrett Cooper (Lower Columbia) was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

Travis Shulman (Harvard) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI, while Jack Edmunds (Brown) was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Veteran Jeremy Giesegh (Cal State, San Bernardino) was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Shulman hit .667 during the series against the Gumberoos, while Cooper hit .571.
