PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties snap losing streak, beat Kamloops 2-1 behind four-hitter

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Port Angeles Lefties snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 road win over the Kamloops NorthPaws on Friday night, thanks to a four-hit pitching performance from a trio of pitchers.

The trio of Joey Peralta (Mount San Antonio College, Calif.), Garrett Holpuck (Centralia College) and CJ Lewis (Jackson State) combined to strike out 12 NorthPaws, while giving up just one walk.

Starter Peralta picked up the victory, going six solid innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out eight. Holpuck pitched two innings for a hold, striking out two and allowing just one baserunner on a walk. Lewis pitched a perfect ninth for the save, striking out two.

Trent Jackson (Hawaii, Hilo) had a great game, going 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. Roberto Nunez (Embry-Riddle) had a hit and a stolen base while Owen Allsup (West Texas A&M) had a hit.

The Lefties got a lucky break on their first run. In the fifth inning, Chase Taylor (Hawaii Pacific) got on base with a walk. He moved to third base on a double by Jackson, then came in to score on a dropped third strike.

In the sixth, the Lefties took a 2-1 lead when Barrett Rose (Stephen F. Austin) was hit by a pitch. He moved to second on a passed ball, then came in to score on a clutch single by BY Choi.

That proved to be enough as Peralta, Holpuck and Lewis kept the door shut against Kamloops over the final four innings. Pitching staffs both teams dominated as the two squads combined for just nine hits.

Port Angeles (3-10) plays Kamloops (4-9) at 6:35 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. All the game can be viewed on WCL Live at https://wcleague.watch.pixellot.tv.
