PORT ANGELES — The Lefties got a bases-clearing double from Jack Edmunds and a two-run home run from Garrett Cooper, both in the first inning, then held on for the rest of the game to beat the Redmond Dudes 7-3 at Civic Field.
With Thursday’s victory, the Lefties completed their nonleague schedule with a 4-1 record against Pacific International League teams.
Edmunds’ (Brown) and Cooper’s (Lower Columbia) big blows were part of a six-run first inning. The Lefties had three walks and a hit batsmen in that inning to keep the bases clogged up.
Edmunds finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. Jeremy Giesegh (Cal State, San Bernardino) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Danny Porras (Gig Harbor) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
On the mound, four Lefties pitchers allowed 10 hits and five walks but just two earned runs as Redmond stranded nine baserunners.
Cade Stuart (Fresno Pacific) started, going 3â…” innings. He gave up six hits and two earned runs, walking one and striking out one.
Francisco Lopez (Ottawa University) was awarded the victory. He went 2â…“ innings out of the bullpen and allowed one hit, two walks and zero runs. He struck out one.
The Lefties (17-24 overall, 13-23 in WCL, 2-7 second half) played without West Coast League All-Star Game MVP Tommy Markey. Markey will rejoin the team on its short road trip to Kelowna, B.C., to play the Falcons in a three-game series that began Friday night after press deadline. The Lefties play at Kelowna (13-23, 4-5 in second half) at 6:35 p.m. Saturday and 6:05 p.m. Sunday, then return to Port Angeles to face the Bellingham Bells on Tuesday.
