PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula women used a stifling defense and the men used a high-octane offense with both teams winning in dominating fashion over Olympic this weekend.
The women got off to a 23-2 start in the first quarter en route to a 79-24 win over the Trojans. Meanwhile, the men scored 47 points in the first half in a 92-69 win.

The women built up a lead of 63-14 after three quarters. They held the Trojans to just 17.9 percent shooting from the floor and 10 percent shooting (2 for 20) from 3-point range. For the entire game, Olympic made just 10 field goals.
The Pirates didn’t shoot that great from outside, either — 4 for 18 (22 percent), but they had a 52 to 27 edge in rebounding and took 17 more shots (73 to 56) than the Trojans.
Leilani Padilla led the Pirates with 23 points and four steals, while Logan Luke had 10 points and eight rebounds and Casandra White had 10 points. Sunshine Vicente had nine points and six rebounds, while Brianna Fitzgerald had nine points and six rebounds. Kameron Bowen had eight rebounds.
Peninsula (2-1, 9-5) plays a makeup game at 2 p.m. today against Skagit Valley (0-3, 6-9). This game was snowed out last week.

Men’s basketball: Peninsula 92, Olympic 69
The Peninsula men shot over 50 percent of the game and 85 percent from the free-throw line and got big games from the trio of Jaylin Reed, Davien Harris-Williams and Malik Moore in a 92-69 pasting over Olympic.

Harris Williams led the Pirates with 26 points, shooting 11 for 13 from the free-throw line. Reed hit four 3-pointers, shooting 4 for 8, and added 19 points. Moore had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Marquis Gurske added 11 points and six rebounds for the Pirates.

The closest Olympic got in the second half was 10 points, down 47-37 with 18 minutes left in the game. But Harris-Williams hit a pair of 3-pointers to open the lead up to 53-37. The Pirates then went on an 18-10 run over the next seven minutes to open up their largest lead at 71-47 with 9:53 left in the game. From that point on, Peninsula cruised with the Trojans never getting closer than 16 points.
Peninsula (2-1, 12-3) will next play at Whatcom (0-3, 3-12) at 7 p.m. Saturday. A game last week against first-place Skagit Valley was postponed to Feb. 1 due to heavy snow.
