RENTON — Led by several relay and individual top times, the Port Angeles girls won the 1A/2A West Central District swim meet by a wide margin.

Port Angeles tallied 319 points in the Friday and Saturday meet at Lindbergh High School, well ahead of second-palce Steilacoom at 150. Sequim came in eighth with 60 points and Port Townsend 12th with 20 points.

Cassii Middlestead of Port Angeles also won the district diving championship. Teammate Lum Fu came in second.

Port Angeles won four events — the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke.

Winning the 200-yard medley relay were Kenzie Johnson, Jaine Macias, Felicia Che and Nadia Cole with a time of 1 minute, 51.15 seconds. That was a meet record.

Cole won the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.69, Che won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.86 and Macias won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.26, which was a meet record.

In addition to these victories, other Port Angeles girls qualified for the state 2A swim meet in several events. Sierra Hunter qualified in the 200 freestyle, Che (who finished second to her teammate Cole) and Emma Murray qualified in the 200 IM, the 200 freestyle relay team of Johnson, Cole, Macias, and Che finished second and will compete at state in that event, and Johnson, Kylee Reid and Taylor Beebe all qualified for state in the 100 backstroke.

Cole, who finished second to teammate Macias in the 100 breaststroke, will compete at state and Port Angeles’ 400 freestyle relay team of Murray, Ashlee Seelye, Hunter, and Beebe finished second, good enough for state.

The state swim meet will be held Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
