• Pink pleasure — There aren’t too many times when one is guaranteed a fish.
Yet that appears to be the case in Sekiu right now with this year’s massive pink run in a feeding frenzy.
So get while the gettin’ is good and grab a few pinks.
• Grouse hunting — The Peninsula’s tastiest feathered friends are fair game as of Tuesday.
Grouse hunters typically track their prey by driving along old logging roads where the birds tend to congregate.
Those who aren’t lazy can actually get out of the truck, hoof it with their dogs and actually hunt for them the old fashioned way.
• Riding dirty — The Olympic Peninsula Motorcycle Club will host the state Motocross Series this Saturday and Sunday at the motocross track two miles up Deer Park Road west of Port Angeles.
Racing starts at 10 a.m. each day. Cost is $20 for the two-day entrance fee and $10 for Sunday only.
• Fly Fishers meeting — The Olympic Peninsula Fly Fishers’ monthly meeting has been moved up a week to this Monday due to Labor Day weekend’s late arrival.
Dale Dennis of the Evergreen Fly Fishing Club in Everett will be the featured speaker when things begin at 7 p.m. in the Loomis Log Cabin in Port Angeles’ Lincoln Park.
He is an accomplished fly tier who specializes sea-run cutthroat patterns.
Dennis will talk about sea-run cutthroat fishing on the Peninsula as well as a pattern he helped develop, the Sand Lance.
• Morning hike — Time is running out on a picturesque morning hike in the Olympics.
May I recommend hitting the Switchback Trail, which begins just below Hurricane Ridge, at about 6 a.m.?
The hike up to Klahhane Ridge is a bit challenging, but on a sunny day like this Sunday it offers incredible views once you get there.
