LEFTIES: Port Angeles loses in dramatic 11-inning see-saw game (Updated)

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lefties took the Yakima Pippins to 11 innings Sunday in a wild back-and-forth affair, but ultimately went down 11-9.

The Lefties rallied from a 6-4 deficit with a run in the seventh after an Ethan Flodstrom double and an Anthony Kodama RBI single.

Port Angeles took the lead in the eighth on a dramatic two-run home run by Nathan Chong. But the Pippins’ Willie Lajoie hit a solo home run of his own in the eighth inning to tie the game at 7-7.

In the top of the 11th, the Pippins finally broke through with a walk and an error and then a suicide squeeze to score a runner from third. At that point, the dam appeared to break for the Lefties as they gave up three more runs on a double, a walk and a two-run single.

The Lefties rallied in the bottom of the 11th with a Luke Saunders single, a Jack Holman double, an RBI groundout, and RBI double by Kodama.

But a deep drive to right by Javy Espinoza with two outs and a runner on base was caught at the warning track to end the game.

Chong finished 2-for-5 with his home run and three RBIs. Kodama was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Saunders was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI, while Nick Oakley was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jaden Matthews also had a double.

Riley Wike had a good game on the mound in relief, going three innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out one.
