PORT ANGELES — The Lefties’ bats were as hot as the weather as they tallied 30 runs in a pair of wins over the Northwest Honkers on Saturday and Sunday.
The Lefties won 15-3 on Sunday after an incredible come-from-behind 15-10 win Saturday. The Lefties ended up sweeping the Honkers over the weekend in a three-game nonleague series.
Sunday’s afternoon game was limited to seven innings because of the 97-degree heat.
In Sunday’s game, Port Angeles got off to a 5-0 start in the first inning as Shea Thomas had an RBI double and Zach Thomas had a pair of RBIs. Newcomer Nick Oakley of UC Santa Barbara had an RBI.
The Honkers’ Walker Keller was all the offense as he hit a home run in the first inning. He added two RBIs on a bases-loaded hit late in the game.
In the second inning, Carson Crawford had a two-run RBI and newcomer Tommy Takayoshi from the University of Washington had a sac fly RBI.
Takayoshi added a three-run home run late in the game. Shea Thomas finished with three hits and a pair of RBIs.
Corey Sanchez started the game, allowing one run. Steven Brooks closed the game.

Lefties 15, Honkers 10
PORT ANGELES — The Lefties staged a remarkable comeback after falling in a 9-0 hole against the Honkers, rallying with 15 runs over the final five innings of the game to win 15-10.
The Lefties tallied 17 total hits, including a two-run home run by Zach Thomas (Dixie State) in the fifth inning to begin the comeback. Thomas added another RBI on a bases-loaded walk during the Lefties’ six-run fifth inning to get back in the game at 10-9.
The Lefties only allowed one run over the last five innings. Luke Saunders (University of San Diego) started the game in centerfield, but came in to pitch the final three innings to earn the victory. Saunders also had three hits at the plate, scored two runs and had an RBI with a bases-loaded walk.
Sunday’s game concluded a 12-game homestand and a nine-game nonleague stretch. The Lefties return to West Coast League action with a six-game road trip, the longest of the season, beginning Tuesday night at Yakima. The high temperature forecast for Yakima on Tuesday is 114 degrees and on Wednesday, the forecast is for a high of 110.
