CHIMACUM — Mechelle Nisbet of Chimacum was named the Olympic League 1A Division Girl’s Basketball League Most Valuable Player on Tuesday.
Nisbet averaged 15.7 points a game in league play and led her team to a winning record and postseason berth. Nisbet also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 5.9 steals a game in an outstanding all-around senior season.
“She was a four-year starters and three-time all league. You can’t find anyone who works harder than her,” said her coach Trevor Huntingford.
“She’s the kid you find the the gym 15, 30 minutes after practice is over,” Huntingford said. “She’s one of the most natural born competitors I’ve ever seen. She’s tireless.”
Huntingford said he has no doubt Nisbet could play college basketball. Nisbet and her twin Shanya are also star softball players for Chimacum.
Also making the Olympic League 1A All-League team was Kaitlyn Meek and Jaz Apker-Montoya of Port Townsend.
