GIRLS BOWLING: PA’s Robinson, Pangaro qualify for state

BREMERTON — Port Angeles’ Abby Robinson and Paige Pangaro both qualified for the second straight year to compete at the 2A state bowling tournament this weekend.

Robinson finished fourth at the West Central District tournament Saturday, while Pangaro finished 17th.

Robinson started the tournament strong and recorded the highest game one score of 205, which included four strikes in a row. Robinson also had games of 158 and 138 to finish with a 167 average. Pangaro bowled games of 159, 134 and 160, grabbing the last individual berth to state. The top nine individual scores of bowlers not on a state-qualifying team qualify for the state tournament.

“We knew Abby had advanced, but with Paige, we had to anxiously wait over an hour to see how the team standings ended to determine if she would be going as well,” said Port Angeles coach Rebecca Gundersen. “For both Abby and Paige to qualify for state in back-to-back years is very impressive. They have worked hard to earn this opportunity.”

The four teams qualifying for state include district champion Orting, Klahowya, Washington and Steilacoom. Sequim nearly qualified as a team, coming in fifth.

Salina Stroup of Klahowya was the individual champ with a 533 series. Robinson bowled a 501 while Pangaro had a 453.

Nikoline Updike was the top Sequim bowler with a 446, good for 20th. Morgan Kayser bowled a 426, good for 25th, while Skylar Krzyworz was 35th with a 405 and Kimberly Heintz was 47th with a 376 and Victoria Nava was 59th with a 337.

The state bowling tournament will be held in Tukwila on Wednesday.
