POULSBO — Sequim saw its girls soccer season come to a conclusion in the district tournament while Port Angeles’ shot at an upset bid of No. 1-seed Bainbridge and a state tournament berth was postponed a day Thursday evening.
The Wolves (7-11) fell 8-1 to Olympic League foe North Kitsap on the Vikings’ home field.
Sophomore Ruby Moxley-Horgan scored Sequim’s lone goal, coming off of a corner kick from senior Raimey Brewer. It was Moxley-Horgan’s team-high 11th goal of the season
Brewer was one of three Wolves teammates, along with classmates Hailey Wagner and Kylie Winter.
Brewer ended her four-year varsity Wolves career with a team-leading 13 assists and five goals. Winter posted seven goals and six assists, and Wagner anchored the team’s defensive back line.
Besides Moxley-Horgan, Sequim likely returns junior Olive Bridge, who recorded six assists, and sophomore Kaiya Robinson, who had four goals this season. Junior Lilly Sparks also totaled four goals and should return.
The Wolves are set in goal with junior Lillian Anderson.
Port Angeles’ matchup with Bainbridge was pushed to Friday evening after the Roughriders were stuck in traffic stemming from a fatal Hood Canal Bridge collision Thursday evening.
If the Riders (15-3) beat Bainbridge, they qualified for the state tournament and would play Steilacoom (14-2) for the district title today at 5 p.m. at Bainbridge. If Port Angeles lost to the Spartans, the Riders would face Orting (11-5) in a winner-to-state, loser-out 1 p.m. contest at North Kitsap.
