CROSS-COUNTRY: PA girls 8th, Sequim boys 11th

Led by 11th-place finisher Gracie Long, the Port Angeles girls cross-country team finished eighth at state at the state 2A cross-country championships at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

The girls came in eighth out of 16 teams at the state meet Saturday with 246 points. Sequim had 313 points, good for 13th. Selah won the championship with 92 points.

The Wolves’ top runner was Morgan Bingham, who finished 34th.

Among the boys, Sequim finished 11th at state, while Port Angeles finished 15th. Sequim’s Ash Francis led the team, finishing 17th. Sehome won the state 2A title with 97 points, while Sequim had 228 and Port Angeles 437.

The girls’ winning time was 18 minutes, 41.3 seconds by Elyria Kabasenche of Pullman. Long finished 35 seconds behind her at 19:16.9.

The Port Angeles girls had four runners in the top 100, with Madelyn Dougherty finishing 55th in 20:41.9, Lael Butler 63rd in 20:46.2 and Ella Holland 57th in 21:11.0

Bigham’s time was 20:10.9. She was joined in the top 100 by teammate Kiara Pierson, who finished 60th with a time of 20:44.4.

For the boys, Silas Griffith from Ridgefield won with a time of 15:47.6. Francis’ time was 16:29.0, less than 45 seconds behind.

The top runner for Port Angeles was Cameron Butler, who came in 87th with a time of 17:36.7. Sequim’s Alec Singleton finished 89th at 17:37.8 and Jazen Bartee 98th at 17:44.8.

1A Championships

The Forks girls finished 16th at the state meet with 331 points. Winner Northwest had 79 points. Forks was led by Madelyn Archibald, who came in 129th with a time of 23:08.2. Port Townsend, which did not have a full team, was led by Anika Avelino, who finished 69th with a time of 21:17.3.

Port Townsend and Forks each had two runners in the boys 1A race. Forks was led by Josue Lucas, who finished 77th with a time of 17:56.4 and Port Townsend was led by Brennan LaBrie, who came in 100th with a time of 18:10.6.
